Best Drinks by Caffeine
The caffeinated corner of the drink-mix shelf, ranked by caffeine per serving.
Only about one in eight of the drinks we track contains caffeine, and a bottle is an awkward delivery vehicle for it. The ergogenic band is 3 to 6 mg per kilogram of bodyweight with plasma peak 45 to 60 minutes after ingestion, which means the dose wants to be placed at a moment, not dribbled in over two hours of sipping.
That does not make a caffeinated mix useless. It makes it a background dose you have to account for: whatever the bottle carries counts against your total, so a gel or tablet placed deliberately before the hard part of the race should be sized around it, not on top of it. Sip rate also decides how much you actually get, which is a real argument for keeping the bottle caffeine-free.

The top 10
Treat the caffeine column as a per-bottle budget line, then place the rest of your dose with a gel timed 45 to 60 minutes out.
