Best Recovery powders by Carbs
Recovery drinks ranked by carbs per serving - the number endurance recovery actually turns on.
A hard endurance session drains muscle glycogen, and refilling it is the rate-limiting step for how you perform the next day. Glycogen is made from carbohydrate, so the carbohydrate is what refills the tank; protein drives repair and supports the process. After a long or depleting session the guidance is roughly 1.0 to 1.2 g of carbohydrate per kilogram per hour in the first hours after finishing.
Recovery products vary enormously on this axis, from near zero to close to 70 g per serving. That is why a 20 g protein and 20 g carb drink, fine after an easy hour, is thin after a five-hour ride: one serving replaces a small fraction of what you burned. Either pick a carb-led product or add carbohydrate around it, real food included.
